Chapter 3/4 journal

How would you describe the baby? What do you think happens when there is a "release"? Why do you think it's called release?

  1. The baby has light eyes and his name is Gabriel. Jonas's father is taking care of him untill the community decides if they should accept him as a member of the community or get him released.
We think that ''release'' means being killed by the giver. Perhaps it means the giver is ereasing the memory of the realesed person and making him a new baby.
We think that it is called release because they are releasing the released person out of the community.

  2. The baby seems curios and special. It also had\s what Lily describes as "funny looking eyes". Because it say that nearly all the community have dark eyes but Jonas and the baby have light eyes. When someone is released i think it means that they where sent away from the community into the wild part of the world.

  3. I would desсribe the baby as a small fragile with white(light) eye's.
i think the relese resembels Getting rid of the burden of living in the community
and following the rules or maybe banishing someone from the what they call:"life"
I think when there is a relese people are sad/happy(if its a relese of old)and they gather in the relese room for the relese ceramony and hear about the old man's life/the breaking of the rules and the shame.

  4. I would describe the baby as special because he has blue eyes and Jonas's dad took him home with him. I think when someone is released he gets kicked out of the community. I think there is a big reble force outside the community. I think Jonas will be the next reble leader.

  5. I think the baby will be a big part in the story, I also think he is very special and very similar to Jonas (they both have blue eyes) while the whole community has dark eyes. I think that "releasing" is making people leave and die alone in Elsewhere and nobody finds out about that. I think it's called release because i think they release you and let you decide where you will go and what you will do independent of the commitee.

  6. the baby has light eyes. his development proses is slower, the community elders wanted to release him, but jonas' father saved him, and convinced the community elders to keep him in jonas' house. he's staying with nurturers for another year. I think that a "release" is when you send the person out of the community. you
Technically send him away and not knowing what will happen to him. I think it's called "release" because you're releasing someone from hus old life/ you're sending him away/

  7. The Baby is calm yet weak and has pale eyes just like jonas has.
I think released is when someone is killed by a man whose job is to tend to this knid of released
    newchild-nurturer
    old-oldcarer
    criminal-warden
I think its called release because he is never seen again and nobodoy cares about him after the release, he is "released from thier mind"

  8. - The baby's name is Gabriel or Gabe. He has light eyes like Jonas, and light eyes are very rare in their society. Jonas thinks Gabe's eyes have depth to them, "as if one were looking into the clear water of a river, down to the bottom, where things might lurk which hadn't been discovered yet." Lily describes him as cute and tiny. He was supposed to be released because he isn't growing as fast as he should, but Jonas's father saved him and is currently taking care of him.
    - I think that when there is a release, the person who is being released basically is kicked out of The Community and goes to somewhere unknown where everybody else who was released went to. I think all the released people formed a new community with no strict rules and routines to follow, where people can live a normal life.
    - I think it's called release because they are released from the society. They are released into an unknown place where The Community is not responsible for them. They are released from the millions of rules and routines.

  9. The new baby's name is gabriel. His eyes are pail and lighter the the other people in the community. Gabriel's eye are the same ase jonas's eyes. Gabriel is a tiny baby. He has slow development . He was supposed to be released but jonas's father convinced the community not to. Releas is when you take a person out of the community. After the ceramony and the celebration you take him to the releasing room and then his gone forever . I think maby the released person is moving to another community. I think it is colled release because the person who get released doesnt belong to the community anymore and is released from the laws and the strict rules.

  10. The baby's name is Gabriel and he has light eyes like Jonas has. He has lighter eyes then the people in the communty, most of them have dark eyes. Gabriel is a tiny baby that has slow development.
I think that release is to take a man or woman that broke the rules, an old man or woman, unhealthy new child to another community and then the person is gone forever. I think it called 'release' because when the person is been released, he is released from the community, from the strict rules and routines.

The baby is very special. He is quiet and he has bright eyes, like Jonas. The baby's name is Gabriel. I think that when there is a release the Old (-or the one that released, could be someone that broke the law) is going out of the community to a place they get their memories by The Giver (or The Receiver) and being in a special place until they die. I think it calls a "release" because the man that "release" from the community is "releasing" from his life in the community- his family and kids, his assignment and his friends.

  13. The baby Gabrielle is very unique; he has light eyes, like the main character jonas... In my opinion a relaese is when sombody who requierds a punishment leaves the community. This is a very harsh punishment beacause he leaves behind his whole life. In other words released can also be called: "exiled". Also when time comes elders are realesed from the community aswell, it simulates death or end of life - it could be tragic but ijn this case very peaceful.
I think it is called release because the person is being "released" from the community, they are letting him go.

  14. The baby's name is Gabriel. He has pale eyes just like Jonas's. He is smaller than the natural size of babies his age. His development is slow (unlike other babies). I think that people that get release, eventually, arrive to another community and make themselfs new lives. I think it calls release because it's like the verb: releasing. I think it means that the man fo example, that get released, "go away" from the community, make himself new life, the releasing ceremony, is for new life, an opportunity for a new life.

  15. I would describe the baby as a little boy with light skin and light eyes in a pale shape, just like Jonas.he souled be called special like all the people wihtout dark eyes.
I think the release is when people are sent to the releasing room, in the room the community gives them very difficult conditions without food or drink until they die from hunger, or they give them hard tasks or jobs and let them die and leave the community.
I think the "release" is called release because after spending time in the releasing room the people get "released" from the world (dead).

The baby Gabe has light eyes, which means that he is speciel as Jonas. Jonas father decided to take care of the baby, because the commitee of elders did not knew if Gabe would be released from the community.
I think that to be released from the community means that tou did'nt fit in like the other people, or if you are old. I think that if you had been released, you would be dead, somehow.
I think it's called release, because you are getting out from this tough society. You don't have the strict rules. Now you would have some freedom from this community.

  17. Gabriel is the small little new child. Jonas's father takes baby Gabriel home to help him sleep at night. Gabriel has light eyes like Jonas. In the community bright colored eyes are a very special and a rare thing. Gabriel is very weak and he didn't grow fast enough, Jonas's father also saved him from being released. I think that release means: that once the decision to release someone is made there is someone who is responsible for the "job". He tells his workers to take the people to a room of "release" and kill them. I think it's called release because it means: out of the community and when someone dies he can never come back or bother the "perfect community".

  18. I don't really know the baby but I would say he is cute, calm and relaxed.
I think that when there's a releasing cermony, the people who knew the person who's getting released, come around, talk about the person who is beeing released and sharing stories from his life.
I think this ceremony called "release" because the ceremony means that someone is getting released from the community.

  19. The information we know about the baby is very limited, but out of what we know, we can find that Gabriel is special. for he has pale eyes like Jonas, while most of the community have dark eyes. Gabriel is also small and weak, and didnt grow up fast enough.
I think a "release" is basically a progress where the weak newchild, or the old who finished his job for the community, is killed. I think it is called a release, to not frighten the society about death, and release becomes a happy thing, unrelated to pain at all.

  20. The newchild who Jonas's father describes at the dinner table and later brings home, which he gave secretly his own name to (Gabriel) is a quiet, calm sweet baby "with a lovely disposition". Yet, he has a quiet few odd and abnormal things about him (in the terms of the community). and he might be less live full than the other newchildren, maybe weaker and has sleeping disorders. Jonas's father is very worried about him and afraid that he might be released.
The term of "releasing" in the community has three different meanings: There is elder release of the ones who live their own full life which is very honored and celebrated, and a baby release, which happens when the newchild seems to be abnormal, defective, weak or unfitting to the community. But the most common cases are caused from a disgrace, failure of someone of someone to fill his part for the sake of the community or disobeying the strict rules of it. It basically means to be "kicked out" of the community, the worst punishment.
In my opinion, releasing is probably a total disconnect of the community, leaving it behind and being free of it's rules and rituals, yet accepting the fate of being thrown into the outside world which is scary and unknown, neither to the characters or to the readers. Also, it is described that there is a specific room where you released out of and never come back. I think this is why it is called "release."

  21. The baby has light eyes and his name is Gabriel. I think that release means killing, and it's called like that because they're "release the soul"
